At the L.A.B. Med Spa in Southlake, Texas, adult patients may find that they have access to various cosmetic treatments to turn back the hands of time. Neurotoxins are one of many injectables used in our practice to assist with smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. Neurotoxin treatment is best for wrinkles caused by muscle tension, often known as “dynamic wrinkles.” With neurotoxins, many patients can avoid or delay plastic surgery treatments to permanently reduce skin laxity and wrinkle formation, making it a more desirable and affordable option for them. Below are just a few of the more commonly asked questions about our line of neurotoxins.
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are neurotoxins that use the bacterium Clostridium botulinum to address the tension of the muscles they are injected in. These neurotoxins are also used to treat several medical conditions, including:
We focus on using neurotoxins for cosmetic purposes at the L.A.B. Med Spa for smoothing out wrinkles and folds in the facial area.
Neurotoxins work by blocking the release of acetylcholine from nerve endings. This reduces muscle activity that causes wrinkles and folds on the face, specifically the upper portion, such as forehead folds, glabellar lines, and crow’s feet.
Yes, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all considered safe and are approved by the F.D.A. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for cosmetic use. However, it is critical to have injections administered only by a trained professional.
The effects of our three varieties of neurotoxins usually last anywhere between three to five months. However, this can vary depending on the individual and the treated area. Therefore, we recommend making an appointment for follow-up injections when leaving our office after the first round of injections.
The most common side effects of these cosmetic injections are temporary and may include:
More severe side effects are rare but can include:
Most of these minor side effects will resolve independently after a few days. However, if you experience severe side effects after receiving injections, you should immediately seek medical attention.
In addition to neurotoxins, our team may also integrate dermal fillers into one’s cosmetic treatment. For example, combining both dermal fillers and neurotoxins can provide a “liquid facelift” with more dramatic results for those who desire them.
